Last Wednesday, the boys cross country team ran away with two easy victories over Minuteman and Northeast Metro Tech at Breakheart Reservation. The boys had nine runners in before Northeast’s first runner and eleven in before Minuteman’s first runner. Both final scores were 15-50 for Chelsea. Senior co-captain Jose Leclerc won by over two minutes and is undefeated going into the final dual meet of the year. Wuilfido Hernandez was second, Demitrius Martinez was third followed by Alex Pedrero in fourth and Rafael Castillo. They all finished in the same time of 19:14. In sixth place was Limilson Tavares, seventh was Ronny Lopez. Jazmany Reyes was eighth and Yosef Rubin was ninth. We have a strong deep team that is getting better and more competitive each week. We have a quad meet next week and we have a chance to finish 8-2 on the year.
On Saturday, the boys competed at the Bay State Invitational in Wrentham. We had eleven boys qualify for this meet which is the largest number of boys on the team that have been able to run under twenty one minutes for 3.1 miles. Jose Leclerc finished thirteenth and received a medal running a personal best of 16:47. Alex Pedrero ran 18:53 and had a personal best by over forty seconds. Demitrius Martinez ran 19 flat and Yosef Rubin ran a personal best of 19:14.
The girls cross country team ran their record to 8-0 with two convincing victories over Minuteman and Northeast Metro Tech. Junior co-captains Yarid Deras and Jocelyn Poste finished one, two in the race. Junior Amanda Dias finished third, while Cynthia Mancia was sixth overall. Marissa Rivera clinched the meet for the lady red devils by finishing ninth. The girls beat Minuteman 17-46 and also defeated Northeast by the score of 17-44. The girls are traveling Wednesday to Essex Tech in Danvers where they will be facing undefeated Shawsheen Tech and Essex Tech for the CAC large school championship.
On Saturday, four girls competed at Wrentham in the Bay State Invitational. Yarid Deras ran a season best of 21:45 on the 3.1 mile course. Amanda Dias ran 22:23 while Jocelyn Poste finished in 23:04 and Cynthia Mancia crossed the finish line in 23:38.
