Last Wednesday at Admiral’s Hill the Chelsea boy’s cross country team improved their record to 3-2 with a solid 23-38 victory over Gr. Lowell. It has been a number of years since we have beaten Gr. Lowell, so this felt good. Senior captain Jose Leclerc crushed his previous course record by over thirty seconds to win by over a minute in 17:31. Gr. Lowell finished second and third but Chelsea had the next eight finishers which got the team the win. Wuilfido Hernandez was fourth in a personal best of 18:48. Demitrius Martinez finished fifth in a season best of 19:34. Senior captain Alex Pedrero also had a personal best finishing sixth. Raphael Castillo was seventh overall running just over twenty minutes, 20:01. Limilson Tavares and Jazmany Reyes were one second apart running 20:09, 20:10 respectively. Yosef Ruben and Justin Turner ran 20:12 and 20:16 to finish tenth and eleventh. We had eight runners finishing within ninety seconds of each other. That is what we have been looking for all year. If we can continue to race like this then we have a chance at the league meet title. The boys will travel to Wakefield this Wednesday to compete against Northeast and Minuteman Tech.
The Chelsea girl’s cross country team improved to 6-0 on the year with a convincing 22-28 victory over Gr. Lowell. Junior captain Yarid Deras won by over forty seconds in a season’s best of 22:15. Junior captain Jocelyn Poste was about a minute behind in third place. Gr. Lowell was fourth but then Chelsea earned the next four spots and seven of the next eight spots to give Gr. Lowell the loss. Junior Amanda Dias was fifth running 24:29 while Cynthia Mancia was one second behind followed by freshman Kathy Lopez who was also one second behind Mancia. Marissa Rivera was eighth running 26:04 and Karina Avalos, Carla Romero and Stefanie Rodrigues were tenth, eleventh and twelfth to finish up the scoring. We had a great pack today and we ran well as a team. The girls will be competing against Northeast and Minuteman Tech this Wednesday (10/11). If we get by those two teams then we will have a showdown for the large school dual meet title the next week at Essex Tech versus Essex Tech, Shawsheen and Lynn Tech.
