Last Saturday, the boys and girls teams traveled to Wrentham for the Frank Mooney Coaches Invitational. The boys were led by senior captain Jose Leclerc who ran a personal best of 16:38 for the 3.1 mile course and was sixth out of five hundred and twenty-nine runners. This earned Jose a medal. He ran a smart race Saturday and moved up as the race went on. Next Saturday (11/11) is the Eastern Massachusetts Division 2 Championships, and Jose has a very good chance of qualifying for all-states, which is the top seven individuals not on an all-state qualifying team.
Also running well for Chelsea were junior Justin Turner who ran a sixty-six second personal best of 18:44. Yosef Rubin ran 18:57, which was a personal best by fourteen seconds. Jazmany Reyes had a personal best by thirty-eight seconds running 18:58. Limilson Tavares and Ronny Lopez each ran their best times running 19:07 and 19:08 respectively. We could have all of our top seven runners break nineteen minutes next week which has never happened before. There is a lot of depth on the boys team and they have one of the better runners in the state this year.
For the girls team, Yarid Deras medaled (top 50) with a 44th place performance out of the three hundred and twenty-seven girls in the race. Her time of 21:24 was her second best time on the Wrentham course. Jocelyn Poste broke twenty two minutes for the first time (21:58) and finished sixty-fifth. Amanda Dias was one hundred sixth in 22:33 and Cynthia Mancia was one hundred twentieth. Both teams will be running next Saturday at Wrentham again for the division 2 Eastern Massachusetts Championships.
