Thank you to everyone who ran and/or supported the great success that was the first ever Red Devil Turkey Trot! The goal of the run is to raise funds to support the student athletes of Chelsea High. In our first year we had an amazing 44 competitors and an additional dozen supporter that contributed donations. The weather was great and the atmosphere was fun and exciting.
High School senior, Jose Aguiar, was the overall winner on the Admirals Hill 5K course. Second went to UMASS Boston’s Johny Long. The battle for third was hard fought between legendary Cross Country coach Don Fay and class of 2011 Captain Edgar Ocana (currently competing for Babson College). In the end Ocana narrowly defeated Fay, however; we are reviewing the film to see if Ocana may have taken a short cut.
The top female runner was friend of the program Anica Jermie with an a amazing time of 21:22. Second was Sue Quimby and the top Chelsea student was freshman standout Jocelyn Poste.
Team scores were close (yes we kept score – surprise!!!!!)
1st place – CHS Alumni (50 points)
2nd place – CHS Students (55 points)
3rd place – Friends &Family (56 points)
4th place – CHS Staff (70 points) Coach Aronson deserves much of the blame
Thank you again to everyone who helped make this event such a great success. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next year. Our goal is to grow this event bigger and bigger.
