Last week both boys and girls won vs. Lynn Tech. The boys won a tough and surprising victory against previously undefeated Lynn Tech by a score of 83-63. The meet was close most of the way with our boys pulling away towards the end. Nick Ieng had a big day winning the Javelin (131’3″), shot put (37’3″), and took a key 2nd place in the 200m (23.78). Adriel Cedano was a winner in the 400m (56.18) and the triple jump (38′). Junior Jose Leclerc won both the 2 mile (11:25) and the 800 (2:21). Once again we ask Jose to do something other than his best event, the mile, and Jose rose to the challenge to win the very tough double. Alex Pedrero took a key first place in the hurdles (18.75). Bryan Rivas took another key first in the 400 hurdles (63.06). Isaac Colcord took first in the discus with a toss of 105’4″. The turning point of the meet was the 1-2 that we took in the mile with Walid El Mellouki in first and Justin Turner taking the second. This combined with the 1-2 in the 800m all but sealed the meet for us. Lynn is defending CAC co-champs and very well coached under Coach Hogan. We did not expect this victory but our boys showed up, competed hard, and prevailed. This brings the boys record to 4-1.
The girls took every first place spot on route to a victory over Lynn Tech. Jocelyn Poste won the 400 hurdles (77.81) as well as the 800m (2:45). Amanda Dias was a winner in the 2 mile (14:37). Yarid Deras won the mile in a time of 6:27. Sylvia Ageiwaa won the high hurdles (16.68). Martine Simon won the 100m (12.78) and the 200m (27.24). Stephanie Simon won the high jump with a jump of 4’8″. Jessica Martinez won the Javelin with a toss of 60′. Xiana Herasme won the discus with a throw of 75′ and Alex Martinez won the shot put with a throw of 27’5″. Rounding out the winning was Owliyo Mohamud in both the long jump (16′.5″) and the 400m in a seasons best time of 61.65. The girls improve to 5-0 and have a big showdown this week with Mystic Valley and Whittier.
This past Saturday the boys and girls competed at the MSTCA Division 2 Relay meet. The girls discus relay of Jessica Martinez, Xiana Herasme, and Masireh Ceesay took 6th place overall. This is the best ever finish for our girls throws team. On the track the 4x200m relay team of Martine Simon, Owliyo Mohamud, Syvlia Ageiwaa, and Stephanie Simon smoked the school record in a time of 1:48.19 giving them 5th place overall. They were able to win their heat by 30 meters, makes me wonder how well they could of done if they were in the seeded heat. This is the first time in team history that more than one relay team placed at this very competitive meet.
