Good weekend at the MIAA D2 State Championship. Senior Sylvia Agyeiwaa ended her career with a 7th place finish in the high hurdles, this is a major accomplishment and we are so proud of how far she has come this season. She has worked real hard to get to this point, and is very deserving of this. Fellow Senior Owliyo Mohamud ended her career with an 8th place finish in the 400m setting a new school record in a time of 60.23. We will greatly miss this pair of student athletes. Junior Martine Simon finished 9th in the 200m (26.54, new school record) and 13th in the 100m. The difficult thing about Martine is that she is so good at so many events. This makes it hard to figure which event is best for her to compete in the state meet. Freshman Stephanie Simon finished 13th in the high jump with a jump of 4’9″. You could tell she was not happy with this result but Stephanie should be proud of what she has accomplished since this is her first season of track. Indoors next year will be an important season for her development. Sophomore Jocelyn Poste competed well in both the 800 (19th), as well as the 400 hurdles (19th). Fellow Sophomore Amanda Dias took 20th in the two mile. Senior Alex Martinez took 24th in the shot put and Sophomore Masireh Ceesay took 17th in the discus. While graduation is hitting us hard we look forward to the talent we have returning and the bright future we have.
On the boys side Senior Nick Ieng had a good day taking 17th in the 100m and 11th in the Javelin. Senior Adriel Cedano ended his amazing career with a 17th place finish in the 400m and a 15th place finish in the triple jump. Senior Bryan Rivas finished 26th in the 400m hurdles. Cedano, Rivas, Jose Leclerc, and Isaac Colcord combined for a 14th place finish in the 4x400m with a season best time of 3:41.28. This group of senior boys will greatly be missed. They provide leadership for our team on and off the track. In addition Ieng and Cedano are the top two point getters for this team. Filling their shoes will be hard work.
