The boy’s and girl’s opened their season yesterday 9/14 at Admirals Hill where they hosted Somerville. Both meets were close but Somerville was able win both. In the boy’s race, Jose Aguiar finished second overall for Chelsea in his first cross country race ever. Finishing two seconds behind Aguiar was Captain Jonathon Gomez. Jansel Claudio was next for the Red Devils in seventh place. In ninth place was Jose Cintron who was followed by Alecio Dasilva. The final score was Somerville 24 Chelsea 31. The team had a good first meet, with a lot of new cross country runners who are getting used to the distance. We had a competitive first meet with Somerville and we are looking forward to our future meets where we can improve on our performance as we continue to work hard.
In the girl’s meet the score was a little closer, Somerville won 25 to 30. Captain Wendy Becerra (returning CAC all star) was third overall in a time of 23:32. Melanie Nguyen was fourth and Cynthia Guzman was fifth. The next two spots went to Somerville which ultimately won them the meet. Jennifer Navarro was was eight in her first cross country race and Yarid Monzon was tenth to finish the scoring for the lady red devils. The team had a good showing. We have three freshman who are getting used to what cross country running is like. Unfortunately when a team goes 1-2 on you there are in good shape. We had places 3-4-5 but we were one runner away from winning.
On Wednesday the team travels to Tyngsborough to face Notre Dame Academy (girls only), Lynn Tech and Presentation of Mary.
