The boy’s improved to 3-2 in the league last Thursday with two close victories against Northeast and Minuteman. Both scores were by the same 25-30 tally. Senior captain Johnny Gomez was fourth overall in a time of 20:09. Just four seconds off his personal best. Jose Cintron (20:46), Adriel Cedano (20:49) and Diego Estrada (20:50) all finished together and all had their personal bests. They finished sixth, seventh and eighth overall. These three guys helped immensely in us winning this meet, cross country is all about pack running. They ran the whole race together and helped each other during the race. Senior captain Eric Orellana was the fifth Chelsea runner and the clinching spot for the Red Devils. The boys are facing Essex North Shore and Mystic Valley on Wednesday at the new Essex North Shore high school.
The girls improved to 4-1 in the league with two victories last Wednesday at Admiral’s Hill. The girl’s beat Northeast 19-40 and beat Minuteman 15-50. Senior captain Wendy Becerra tied her personal best on her home course running an outstanding 22:17 on the 3.1 mile course, winning by over a minute. Melanie Nguyen was third overall in a time of 24:09 running a personal best by 42 seconds. Freshman Jocelyn Poste finished in fourth place in a time of 25:20 also running a personal best. Jocelyn has been working real hard in practice and you can tell she likes to compete. Cynthia Guzman was next for Chelsea in a time of 25:43, bettering her best time by fourteen seconds. Yarid Deras was the fifth and clinching runner for the lady red devils running 26:57. Deras ran a personal best by almost two minutes (1:52), she was followed closely by Tiana Jurisic who had the same time (26:57).
The girls are also facing Essex North Shore and Mystic Valley on Wednesday.
