Hi everyone,
Sorry for the late post but winter is a busy time.
Exciting wins for both boys and girls v. Medford last Thursday. Medford is a well coached team and wins against them don’t come easy.
The boys meet came down to the relay with Chelsea pulling out the win to beat Medford 51 – 39. The meet was back and forth the whole way. First place finishers for Chelsea were: Senior Johnny Gomez in the 2 mile (12:30), Senior Jose Aguiar in the 600 (1:38), Junior Adriel Cedano in the High Jump (5’6″), and Senior Shot putter Luka Braga. What made the difference was all of the 2nd and 3rd place finishers we won. Each race was a battle and the boys rose to the occasion. This included Eric Orellana,2nd in the 2 mile, who was asked to make the jump to the 2 mile for this meet. Adriel Cedano and Nick Ieng took 2nd and 3rd in the dash. Sophomore Nelson Hernandez took second in the Shot Put. Sophomore, and track new comer, Jose Leclerc took 2nd in the mile while teammate Jansel Caludio finished 3rd. Senior Sam Hernandez took 2nd in the 1000. Bryan Rivas took 3rd in the hurdles. This team refused to let Medford put any distance between them in terms of points. The 4×400 relay of Aguiar, Alezio DaSilva, Leonardo DeAlmerdia, and Cedano put the meet away in a time of 4:06.
The girls meet was also very close, just missing being decided by the relay, 48 – 34. First place finishers included: Senior Mariama Kamara in the dash, Senior Wendy Becerra in the 2 mile (14:14), Sophomore Martin Simon in the 300 (43.43), Freshman Jocelyn Poste in the 1000 (3:49), and Senior Jazmine Castilian in the Shot Put. Once again, it was all the second and third place finishes that made the difference for this team. These include: Melanie Nguyen 2nd in the Hurdles, Katherine Cabral 2nd in the dash, 2nd and 3rd in the 600 by Freshman Gabriela Bermudez and Sophomore Awa Bajinka, 3rd in the 1000 by Emely Burgos, 2nd and 3rd in the mile by Freshman Yarid Deras and Senior Cynthia Guzman. The relay team of Kamara, Simon, Post, and Bajinka also captured victory in a time of 5:05. The start of the meet was Sophomore Martin Simon. Due to injuries we had to ask her to run (and win) the 300. She rose to the occasion with a big win and capped off her day by anchoring the relay win for us.
