The boy’s and girl’s cross country teams traveled to Tyngsboro last Wednesday to face Greater Lawrence and Notre Dame of Tyngsboro.
On the boy’s side, junior Jose Leclerc was the overall winner running away from two Gr. Lawrence runners in the last six hundred yards. Unfortunately for Chelsea, Greater Lawrence had the next seven finishers to secure the victory. Junior Alex Pedreo finished in ninth place and Adriel Cedano finished in thirteenth place. Freshman Abraham Barrientos was nineteenth and junior Eric Benitez was twenty-first . The final score for the meet was Greater Lawrence 20 and Chelsea 43. Greater Lawrence year in and year out is one of the top programs in the CAC. This is a great example for our kids of a championship program. The Frank Kelley Invitational was canceled this weekend due to inclement weather. This Wednesday the boy’s will be facing Greater Lowell at Greater Lowell Technical high school. Jose had a fantastic race today, he ran smart and finished strong. He is a competitive runner and willing to work hard to get better and likes to win.
On the girl’s side, sophomore Yarid Deras prevailed over Greater Lawrence’s top girl by twelve seconds but finished third to Notre Dame’s top two girls and lost for the first time this season. Yarid went out strong and led early, the two girls from Notre Dame reeled her in and were able to beat her on their home course. Next time they meet it will be on a neutral course so hopefully the result will be different. Senior captain Melanie Nguyen was eleventh overall and sophomore Jocelyn Poste was twelth. Senior Owliyo Mohamed was seventeenth and freshman Karina Avalos was twenty third. NDA won by a score of 18-41 and Greater Lawrence won 22-36 over Chelsea. The girl’s were rained out Saturday and will face Greater Lowell on Wednesday.
