Girls: Last Wednesday the girl’s hosted Whittier Tech at Admiral’s Hill. Senior captain Wendy Becerra was the overall winner in a time of 22:45 on the 3.1 mile course. Finishing fourth overall was sophompre Clarissa Sosa who ran a personal best of 24:02. Junior Melanie Nguyen was the third Chelsea finisher and fifth overall running a personal best of 24:51. Next for Chelsea was freshman Jocelyn Poste who ran a personal best by over four minutes, running a gutsy 25:31 for sixth place. Finishing the scoring and clinching the meet was senior Cynthia Guzman running 25:57 for eighth place and also a personal best. The final score was Chelsea 24- 31 Whittier. “Coming into this meet I thought it would be a very competitive meet. We finished strong in most of our races and most of the girls had a significant personal best. Whittier is a good barometer for us and hopefully we can continue to get stronger and faster” remarked Coach Fay.
Boys: In the boy’s race both meets were competitive and close. The boys were on the wrong end of both scores though. The Whitter boys beat Chelsea 23-33 and Lynn Tech squeaked by Chelsea with the score of 26-29. Senior Jose Aguiar ran a personal best of 19:21 to finish second overall in the tri-meet. Senior captain Johnny Gomez finished fifth overall in a personal best of 20:05. After this point three Lynn Tech and three Whittier Tech runners finished before the next Chelsea runner, ultimately leading to defeat for Chelsea. Jansel Claudio was twelth overall in a personal best of 20:42. Jose Cintron was thirteenth in 20:51. Adriel Cedano was fifteenth in a personal best of 21:17. “We ran much better than last week and I was very happy with the effort that we put out there. As a team though we need to run and stay together as a pack to win these close races. That is something that we have been woking on in practice” commented Fay.
