The boy’s and girl’s cross country teams competed at Minuteman Tech in Lexington last week and came away with two victories each.
On the girl’s side, the Red Devils narrowly beat Northeast 26-31 and beat the Minuteman girls 15-50.
Sophomore Yarid Deras continued her winning ways running 18:44 on the 2.7 mile course which was two minutes over the closest competitor from Northeast. Senior captain Melanie Nguyen was third overall running 21:06 with teammate Jocelyn Poste running 21:39 for fourth place. We were missing our regular fourth runner so I was a little concerned about our next two spots. However freshman Karina Avalos ran her best race of the year by far and finished in sixth place for the lady red devils basically clinching the meet against Northeast. Karina is getting better every week and making significant improvements in every meet. She had a couple of girls behind her and if they had beaten her we would have lost the meet to Northeast. Freshman Sandra Tun ultimately clinched the meet for the girls by finishing in fourteenth place overall for Chelsea.
Next up for the girls will be Wednesday October 19th their last home meet of the year against Shawsheen Tech and Esssex Tech. It will be one last chance to improve on our times at home. Yarid will be tested by the Essex girls in this meet they have a solid pack of runners.
On the boy’s side the Red Devil’s won 18-42 against NE and beat Minuteman 16-45.
Jose Leclerc was the overall winner in 15:39 followed very closely by his teammate Demitrius Martinez who was two seconds behind. Alex Pedrero was fourth overall running 17:21 on the 2.7 mile course and his captain Adriel Cedano was three seconds behind him in 17:24. Clinching the meet for Chelsea was Wuilfido Hernandez who ran 17:39 and was seventh overall. Also contributing to the scoring was freshman Abraham Barrientos who was tenth overall at 18:39. The boy’s are now 3-4 in the league and we are hoping to win at least two of the meets next week against Shawsheen, Lynn Tech and Essex Aggie to finish at five hundred in the league.
