10/14/15 Chelsea, Gr. Lowell, Shawsheen @ Gr. Lawrence
Last Wednesday, the boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Andover to face Gr. Lawrence, Gr. Lowell and Shawsheen Tech at Gr. Lawrence’s campus. In the girl’s quad meet the lady red devils won two out of three meets. They beat Greater Lowell 21-34 and narrowly beat Shawsheen 27-28 and they fell to Greater Lawrence 23-36. This put their CAC regular season record at 7-3.
“We had a tremendous meet today, because of an injury and attendance issues we had only five girls running today. That is the bare minimum for a cross country meet. If one of the girls had failed to finish the race we would forfeit automatically all three of the races.” Coach Fay.
Senior captain Wendy Becerra was the overall winner of the race in a thrilling come from behind victory. Wendy was in third for most of the race and in the final 600 meters catch the lead runner from Gr. Lawrence and beat her by two seconds running 21:37 for the 3.1 miles. Freshman Jocelyn Poste was the second Chelsea runner and seventh overall for Chelsea running a time of 22:52. Next for Chelsea was Melanie Nguyen in eleventh place in a time of 23:50. Freshman Yarid Deras and Cynthia Guzman finished eighteenth and nineteenth respectively to round out the scoring for Chelsea.
Fay says. “We ran tough, strong and aggressive today. Some of the girls are still finding their ceiling. The good news is that we are back on this same course in two weeks for the league meet. ”
This week Chelsea will host Everett on Monday they will go to Medford on Thursday and travel to Gr. Lowell for a relay race on Saturday.

Senior captain Wendy Becerra was second overall for Chelsea running 23:35 for the three mile course. Melanie Nguyen was fourth overall in a time of 24:23. Yarid Deras and Cynthia Guzman finished together in 14th and 15th place both running 27:59.
Both meets were close, we just need to do a better job of running as a pack and limit the time elapsed between Wendy and our fifth runner.
The girl’s will be running at Greater Lawrence on Wednesday. Notre Dame has clinched the dual meet title so this meet will be for second place in the large school division.

9/14/15 Somerville @ Chelsea
In a close loss to Somerville Captain Wendy Becerra (returning CAC all star) was third overall in a time of 23:32. Melanie Nguyen was fourth and Cynthia Guzman was fifth. The next two spots went to Somerville which ultimately won them the meet. Jennifer Navarro was was eight in her first cross country race and Yarid Monzon was tenth to finish the scoring for the lady red devils. The team had a good showing. We have three freshman who are getting used to what cross country running is like. Unfortunately when a team goes 1-2 on you there are in good shape. We had places 3-4-5 but we were one runner away from winning.
