The boy’s and girl’s cross country teams hosted Mystic Valley for their first home meet of the year at Admiral’s Hill. The boy’s won by a score of 20-40 over Mystic Valley. Senior captain Jose Leclerc won the meet and established a new course record of 18:02 for the 3.1 mile course, his previous best was 18:16. Jose looked good and he was not even close to full throttle today. I would not be surprised if he ran low seventeens on our course. Junior Wuilfido Hernandez was second overall also running a personal best of 19:05. First year runner Rafael Castillo was fourth overall running under twenty minutes for the course (19:55). Alex Pedrero, Limilson Tavares and Justin Turner finished sixth, seventh and eighth to clinch the meet for the red devils. The team now stands at 2-1 and they will be hosting Greater Lawrence this Wednesday, and on Saturday the boys will be traveling to Wrentham for the Frank Kelley invitational.
Last Wednesday the girls had another close meet as they nipped Mystic Valley 26-29 in their first home meet of the year. Junior co-captain Yarid Deras was second overall running 22:22 for the 3.1 miles. Co-captain Jocelyn Poste finished third in a huge personal best of almost one minute. Junior Amanda Dias, in her first cross country race was fifth overall running 23:30. Also in her first cross country race was Cynthia Mancia, who ran a time of 25:03 and finished seventh for Chelsea, and Kathy Arias, a freshman, sealed the meet for the lady red devils finishing in ninth place. Also running well was sophomore Karina Avalos who bettered her personal best by almost two and a half minutes. The girls improve to 3-0 and are hosting Greater Lawrence and defending league champion, Academy of Notre Dame, this Wednesday. They will then travel to Wrentham to take part in the Frank Kelley invitational.
