The season started off really well for the girls. They took two victories over Greater Lawrence (113-34) and Academy of Notre Dame (101-34). Stephanie Simon, Martine Simon, and Jocelyn Poste bringing over 20 points each really helped start off the season right. Other first place winners for the girls were Yarid Deras, Karina Avalos, Ana Chang, Masireh Ceesay, and Xiana Herasme. There is no doubt the girls’ team is looking really strong this year. In just the first meet of the year Masireh, Martine, and Stephanie all qualified for the Division 1 state meet.
On the other hand, the short handed boys had a tougher start to the season with a loss by only 2 points. They were competing against Greater Lawrence and lost with a score of 65-67. They definitely put up a fight. Jose Leclerc continues to lead the way for this team winning both the 2 mile and 800m. Some important first place winners were Jazmany Reyes, Luqman Shariff, Kelvin Diaz, Tony Bui, and Rigo Flores. There was also an impactful sweep in the mile. The race ended up coming down to the 4×4 relay race. Although they won the 5 points, it still was not enough to win the meet. There was disappointment throughout the end of the meet but they promised each other, the coaches, and themselves that this would not happen again. With that said, we should be looking forward to a strong, aggressive boys team this year too.
