Quite an amazing way to end the indoor season for the CHS girls track team, with awesome performances at the D2, All State, and New England meets!
Starting off with the MIAA Division 2 Championship meet, in which the 4x200m team of Isha Osman, Ana Chang, Stephanie Simon, and Martine Simon ran a seasons best of 1:50.88 to finish 12th. Sophomore Stephanie Simon had a career day in the high jump clearing a personal best of 5’2″ to finish 5th and move on to the MIAA All State Championship. The star of the day was Senior Martine Simon who capped off an amazing indoor career looking strong in both of her events. With a 6th place finish in the long jump (16’4″) and 7th place finish in the 55m dash (7.61). Martine will be greatly missed next year!
On to the All State meet, in which Stephanie Simon had another awesome performance. The sophomore finished 6th in the high jump with a personal best mark of 5’4″. This meet is the combination of all division athletes, meaning that Stephanie is the 6th best high jumper in the state of Massachusetts this year. Chelsea girls have never had an athlete achieve this feat and its been over 10 years since a boy has had this accomplishment. After working so hard hard late in the season and performing well at the All State meet, Stephanie moved onto compete at the New England Championship.
At the New England Championship meet, which took place this past Saturday, the sophomore did not disappoint in the high jump setting a new personal best of 5’5″. This leap was good enough to earn her 6th place overall.
The indoor season is not done for her yet.
Good luck to Stephanie as she moves on to compete at the New Balance Indoor Nationals Championship meet this coming weekend. The meet is held at the Armory in New York City. She will compete in the Emerging Elite division and will jump tomorrow afternoon (3/9). No Chelsea athlete since Bobby Goss has made it to this level, which is an amazing achievement for her and the school. Stephanie is peaking at the right time, so who knows what her ceiling will be.
*STAY TUNED FOR A FUTURE POST ON STEPHANIE’S PERFORMANCE AT NATIONALS!*
