Yesterday, the track team traveled to Providence to compete in the annual East Coast Invitational at Providence Career and Technical Academy. It was the first time this season in which the team competed at an invitational that wasn’t at the Reggie Lewis Center. The day started off with a fourth place medal for future red devil, Alejandro Zepeda, who ran a 5:27.97 in the youth mile. Alejandro is an 8th grader at the Browne Middle School who has been training for the outdoor middle school track season, and finally got to see where he is at now that he was given the opportunity. Stephanie Simon would be the other athlete to get medals, winning the long jump (18’4), a season best, and getting second in the 200 (26.57).
Ana Chang would run her first indoor 400, breaking the record with a time of 65.09, placing 11th overall. Gabby Rivas would slightly improve the indoor 800 record to 2:57.02. Several other members of the team would also have nice performances with PRs for Gloria Rodriguez (55), Nasir Adams (55), Sade Rosales (mile), and Ruben Padilla (mile).
Next Sunday is the State Coaches Invite where Stephanie (55, LJ, HJ), Nasir (55), Ana (300), Jazmany (1000), and Gloria (55), look to compete withe some of the top track athletes in MA.
