Dual Meets
In their first dual meet of the season, Chelsea boys and girls went up against Nashoba Tech. Both teams came away with large margin wins against the school. On the boys side, there were many solid performances all around, including a sweep of the 55 dash, and wins in all events except the high jump. The girls had a similar performance in which they did not let Nashoba win any of the events that meet. Next up, the teams will face Northeast on January 8th to continue the strong start to the season.
Boston Holiday Challenge
On January 27th, a trio of Chelsea runner made their way to the Reggie Lewis Center to run at the Boston Holiday Challenge, an elite meet featuring athletes from multiple states. Stephanie Simon had a great day, winning the long jump (18’2.5, currently the number one jump in MA, and 9th in the nation), getting third in the 55 m dash (7.56s), and 5th in the high jump (5’3, this was her first time high jumping this season). After placing in all three of her events, she was given the Outstanding Overall Female Athlete of the Meet award (last year she was given the Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet at the same event). Jazmany Reyes ran the 600, and improved the school record he set the week before at the Speed Classic, to 1:28.56 (placing 16th out of 60). Ana Chang ran her first 300 this season at the Reggie Lewis Center this season and ran a 44.48, placing 16th out of 108 runners, a strong start as she is already .6 seconds off her PR from last season that she ran at the D2 state meet
Distance Classic
The teams went back to Reggie the next day for the distance themed (+shotput) meet. This was the first time the Chelsea teams competed in an indoor meet that featured an 800 m run, setting up for new school records to be set. Jazmany Reyes set the 800 record with a 2:07.28 the day after improving his 600 m record. This was a great time, placing him 11th out of 83 runners, and will not be easy to beat. Gabby Rivas set the girls record with a time of 2:57.66. It was her first time running the event for the sophomore, and she will more than likely better that time, as she should have two more chances to run the event this indoor season. Another strong performance came from Jeselle Renderos, placing 14th in the field of shotputters with a throw of 26’10.25.
